Cal Cunningham On Removal Of Coronavirus Industry Fund Watchdog: We Must Get This Right For North Carolinians

U.S. Senate candidate and former Army prosecutor Cal Cunningham is responding to news today that President Trump "upended" the panel of federal watchdogs tasked with overseeing the implementation of the latest federal coronavirus response legislation by removing a long-time career official from the post, "chafing at independent oversight."

"The relief package is the largest in U.S. history with trillions of dollars on the line and North Carolinians are looking to Washington to get this right. Unfortunately, today's news is a setback in overseeing and protecting how our taxpayer dollars are spent," said Cunningham. "As an Army prosecutor, I took on corrupt government contractors who were disrupting the mission by breaking the law on the taxpayer dime. The continued chaos over oversight of this fund and the risk that our taxpayer money ends up in the wrong hands is exactly what I warned against upon passage of the bill, and it's incumbent upon Senator Tillis to hold this Administration accountable."

Upon passage of the third COVID-19 relief package, Cal said it was wrong of Tillis to vote twice for the $500 billion fund that lacked meaningful oversight of the taxpayer money.
